I was kidding

I was joking with a friend of mine about the pom-poms placed under seats in the Brady Press Room for reporters during Obama's Press Conferences.
Then Jennifer Rubin tells us I may not be that far off.
In a Newsweek cover story — half cheerleading and half-denial — Jonathan Alter lauds the president’s ability to provide the confidence and vision needed to lift us out of the recession. “The president is well poised to bring us back from the brink,” he pronounces. It is not the policies that Alter focuses upon, but Obama’s supposed ability to provide psychological solace to us.

That ain't Helen Thomas.

Our Blessed Lady of Caffine, don't fail me now!

Christmas is almost over, waiting on the Chicago gifts to arrive.
There are no Senate seats or favors returned from Big Tony.
But I hope everyone was safe and enjoys the cleanup process. I was able to cheat and get FEMA to pitch in. I let them know I voted for GW twice. Sooooo, the Army Corp of Engineers with some SeeBees will be here by noon. Silly Democrats don't get it.
Anyhow, it was nice know all of you, my wife got us Guitar Hero Live Out Child Fantasies World Tour, won't be around much.
Just kidding, let's get it on.
Nothing reeks of deception then releasing an investigation at 4:30 on the day before Christmas Eve.

more of the same

As the last bastion against all things status quo in the Beltway, El-Presidente Electo Obama, fights the power and the establishment. As he brings his audacity of hope, change and to fight things that go bump in the night, he shows his true self.
1st - VP Biden, the lifer who redefines blowhard
2nd - Sec of State, Queen Hillary, never heard of her, from Hitch
Both President and Sen. Clinton, while in office, made it obvious to foreign powers that they and their relatives were wide open to suggestions from lobbyists and middlemen.

Just to give the most salient examples from the Clinton fundraising scandals of the late 1990s: The House Committee on Government Reform and Oversight published a list of witnesses called before it who had either "fled or pled"—in other words, who had left the country to avoid testifying or invoked the Fifth Amendment to avoid self-incrimination. Some Democratic members of the committee said that this was unfair to, say, the Buddhist nuns who raised the unlawful California temple dough for then-Vice President Al Gore, but however fair you want to be, the number of those who found it highly inconvenient to testify fluctuates between 94 and 120. If you recall the names John Huang, James Riady, Johnny Chung, Charlie Trie, and others, you will remember the pattern of acquired amnesia syndrome and stubborn reluctance to testify, followed by sudden willingness on the part of the Democratic National Committee to return quite large sums of money from foreign sources.

3rd - AG Holder, nothing to see here, from Cohen
Soon after Bill Clinton pardoned Marc Rich, the former president and I had a brief telephone conversation. I had been downright heated about the pardon, a lot angrier than I had ever been about Monica Lewinsky. Clinton implied that I had things historically backward. Long after the Rich pardon had been forgotten, he said, the Lewinsky scandal would remain a vivid memory. That day is yet to come. The Rich pardon is back.

The vehicle for this lingering echo from the year 2001 is the choice of Eric Holder as Barack Obama's attorney general. Holder was Clinton's deputy attorney general and he played a significant role in the pardon. When asked by the White House what he thought about a pardon for Rich, Holder replied, "Neutral, leaning towards favorable." These four words have stalked him ever since.

4th UN Ambassador Rice, not the read deal known as Condi. She was a "protege" of Albright, more Clinton. And we know how effective Albright was. From my original blog,

gobble, gobble, hike

everyone has their own game. Mostly it's called Turkey Bowl. I've played with family in Batavia in my younger days and now with old drinking buddies in town.
Every year we arrive at nine a.m. with jerseys that seem to shrink more and more. I still wear an old Bears jersey with Zorich on the back. We pound a few beers, have a couple shots, then game on. In fact, the ball marker goes from a couple cans of Old Style or Bud Light, to a cooler and case.
We went from tackle to two hand touch due to progressing age of the players. But it still hurts. Last year I heard three distinct pops in my shoulder after missing a dump pass in the flat as I hit the dirt. But I was able to put up Christmas lights the next day scaling an old ladder 25 feet in the air. Dislocated a shoulder, pulled ligaments in my knee, bloody lip and nose, but the beer stays cold and we are men. Silly men in suburbia.
In the end, we go back to our families to reunite another year. And no beer cans are left behind. All that is left is the echo of men screeching like soroity girls in chapter and roughed up sod.

Have a safe and happy thanksgiving. I can imagine we have had our various challenges and rewards this year, just remember it's about family.
And remember the Pilgrims were aiming for Virginia and found Massachusetts instead. If men asked for directions, who knows what would've happened.

Part 2
Survived the game.
  • It became a tackle fest with only one person going to the hospital. A little sore, but I remember how much I enjoy some good old fashioned physical contact.
  • I was mercilessly taunted by a little 9 year old. He was the ballsiest little bugger in some time.
  • Obob is a North South runner.
  • Obob could not tackle and left his jock in several locales.
  • Finally, Old Style is man beer. No contest.

Everything on the internet is true ...

I heard about this and now indisputable proof.
Obama eats babies!!!!!

On a side note:
Is there nothing better then coming inside on crisp fall day to the aroma of crock pot cooking filling the house?
Great now I sound like Andy friggin' Rooney. Awesome

Politics in real life

When I play soccer, or make the feeble attempt, there is usually 6 to 12 kids on sidelines belonging to the parents. Last night, my son and couple wandered off with a few of te varmits and I went to bring them back to the fold.

Asking them to come back failed, so I told them,

"Anyone who doesn't come back supports tax hikes!"

All but my youngest nephew fled for fiscal freedom. I gotta work on that little Marxist.

God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly

One of the great shows of the late 70s to 80s was WKRP in Cincinnati. This was one of those perfectly cast shows. Nobody could play Johnny Fever better than Howard Hesseman. Loni, Loni, Loni. Hubba Hubba Hubba.
And the tragic nerd whom many of us felt sympathy and kinship, Les Nessman.
WGN has been running reruns and the classic "Baseball" episode was shown. I found some trivia from Something Old, Something New.

The episode features the second and last appearance (on the original series anyway) of writer Bill Dial as the station engineer, Bucky. Also, Ross Bickell, who plays the manager of WPIG, was married to Loni Anderson at the time. Since she was having an affair with her co-star Gary Sandy, it must have made for an awkward shoot.
go to 12:10 to see, "The Catch."

and of course the Turkey episode

The Vast Wasteland

Outside of the usual sports, (Bears/Football, Cubs & National Soccer action) my TV runs either children shows or the History Channel. Most major network shows are predictable, insipid or in an arrogant sense, numbing.
But there are four shows I eagerly await every week:

  • Burn Notice on USA: Any chance to see Bruce Campbell hamming it up is worth it. And if you want to catch a real odd film, Bubbal Ho-tep. He is Elvis in hiding and Ossie Davis as JFK. Yes, Ossie is black.

  • Law & Order: Criminal Intent on USA: I was wary of this show at first. But the unbridled eccentric genius of Vincent D'Onofrio is worth every episode. Even the return of Chris Noth to the franchise is worth it. But most of all, I love Leslie Hendrix. She has played the savvy ME Dr. Elizabeth Rodgers for all three franchise shows.

  • Eureka on SciFi: This brings out my inner geek. My meager grey matter is generally history or philosophically driven. But the sci-fi angle, perfectly cast and playful physics laden banter makes me giggle like Archimedes. (Who is given his props with a statue in the middle of the town. Plus there is Jo played by Erica Cerra.

  • Penn & Teller Bullshit on Showtime: And these two. They are bombastic and silent. Atheist and Libertarian. And they make you think. Unafraid to challenge any group, from Code Pink to the Catholic Church to NASA. The profane duo are at their best unchained and self-rightous.

Each show has wit, intelligence, truly character driven and unique. It isn't that other shows reek of mediocrity, but my time is limited. I could never commit to the brilliant Lost like a good marriage. And the original Law & Order is like a drunken booty call at 2 a.m. you never let go.

Not only is he a warmonger, but a pervert!!!!!!!

The new vast wasteland, known as the Internet, is having a the usual childish giggles poking fun at GW for going dirty old man on Olympic beach volleyball goddess Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh. Glad to see some things haven't changed.

And speaking as a heterosexual male, at least my boyfriend claims I am, do you blame him?

    Life Goes On

my new favorite word, thanks Eddy
At the Dave show Friday night, I was conversing with one my best friends. He and I have been roommates, been in each others weddings, committed a couple felonies ... you get the picture. We have been known to throw down beers watching election results like it was the Super Bowl.
I digress. As were talking, a friend of one of the couples we came with came upon us. I gave the usual friendly greeting and he asked how I was.
I replied, "Doing well thank you."
His reply, "You said well, are you an English major or pretentious?"
Being my sarcastic self, I said I was both.
I guess my crime is an education. Not that I apply it as I should. This got me to thinking. You have read my posts and comments. They tend to be erratic, obtuse, but entertaining. Mostly capital crimes against literacy, grammar and my family name.
Time to step up. Let's have some fun.

Here are the definitions so you can use big words like I make the feeble attempts:
    pretentious

2: making demands on one's skill, ability, or means : ambitious

    obtuse
    Main Entry: ob·tuse
    Pronunciation: \äb-ˈtüs, əb-, -ˈtyüs\
    Function: adjective
    Inflected Form(s): ob·tus·er; ob·tus·est

    Dave was a bust

As I commented earlier, it was apolitical at dave. Some enviromentalists handing out information. They appeared to be hacks. There was one woman asking if we cared about our planet in the hysterical voice associated with the greenies. But I was going to my seat and she looked like cannon fodder. Other than that, good music and a healthy contact buzz.

    The 5 year-olds struck back

AP - A blogger known as Obob was attacked by two five year olds last night as he watched television at home. Apparently they were angered by his claiming to take 26 at once. He was wrong.

His body has yet to be recovered as it was seen being dragged into the nearby wooded area by a ill tempered rabbit who was described as:

a creature so foul, so cruel that no man yet has fought with it and lived. Bones of full fifty men lie strewn about its lair. So, brave knights, if you do doubt your courage or your strength, come no further, for death awaits you all with nasty, big, pointy teeth.

Army to Shoot Live Pigs to Save Wounded Soldiers' Lives

HONOLULU — The Army on Friday was holding an exercise involving shooting live pigs and treating the gunshot wounds in training it says is critical to saving soldiers' lives but which has sparked outcry from animal-rights activists.

As usual the hypocrites at PETA are up in arms.
My solution is simple, let them volunteer to take a bullet for the pigs.
Plus I have a wicked jones for a pulled pork BBQ sandwich about right now.

As for the inbreds at PETA, never mind. Here is something to chew on if you are bored.

    Piss & Moan Time

    Here's the piss part >>>

I am getting old. I play soccer on Sundays with my brother, sister, & dad. He's in his sixties and scored another goal with my sister getting the assist. My youngest brother turns 21 soon and we need the speed in a bad way.
However, the mighty Obob did score a goal after the goalie stepped on my cleat and de-shoed me.

Alas, I promptly re-aggravated my hamstring and went back into goal. There I pulled a groin muscle and jammed a thumb. All for the love of the game.

    And here's the hat I get ...

    Notes for today

The Cubs swept the dirty southsiders at home this weekend. Always a good thing. We get Marissa Miller to throw out the first pitch, even though Meathead did Sunday night's game.

And speaking of ugly or not, here is a picture of Gus. Yes, he is missing a leg and and an eye.

Finally, Rest In Peace George Carlin, a funny man.

As a matter of principle, I never attend the first annual anything.

Frisbeetarianism is the belief that when you die, your soul goes up on the roof and gets stuck.

I think it's the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately.

I'm completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. My idea is that these two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death.

I'm not concerned about all hell breaking loose, but that a PART of hell will break loose... it'll be much harder to detect.

If it's true that our species is alone in the universe, then I'd have to say that the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little.

If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen defrocked, doesn't it follow that electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted?

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

Well, if crime fighters fight crime and fire fighters fight fire, what do freedom fighters fight? They never mention that part to us, do they?

When someone asks you, A penny for your thoughts, and you put your two cents in, what happens to the other penny?

I don't have hobbies; hobbies cost money. Interests are quite free.

And speaking of special interests, looks like Obama has friends in ethanol biz. Another mark in the hypocrisy category

Mr. Obama is running as a reformer who is seeking to reduce the influence of special interests. But like any other politician, he has powerful constituencies that help shape his views. And when it comes to domestic ethanol, almost all of which is made from corn, he also has advisers and prominent supporters with close ties to the industry at a time when energy policy is a point of sharp contrast between the parties and their presidential candidates.

And he is a friggin' sox fan. Can you think of a better reason not to vote for the schmuck? I don't care if he is a Bears fan. I bet he'd throw them under the bus like his many other ...

War creates shortage in night vision goggles

MADISON, Wis. - The war in Iraq is creating a major — and perhaps deadly — shortage of night vision goggles for civilian pilots who fly medical helicopters in the United States.

This is almost mindnumbing. The media is losing its grip on reality here. Since the our troops are doing superb (and have been for a while) at finding and killing bad guys at night or day. They are causing pilots to risk civilian lives for their selfishness. It fits the friggin' narrative doesn't it?
And of course it's George Bush's fault.
It honestly hurts my wee little brain thinking about this.

Wait, this means I will not be able to get a new night vision goggles to spy on these hotties! Damn this cursed war!

    Kissinger Doing the Weather
Back in the early 90s, I awoke with a wicked hang over one morning. As I sat on the floor watching the morning news, I swore I saw Harold Kissinger doing the weather. No one believed me. Professors discounted me. I have been vindicated.
