Still Picking on the Chinese

I really have nothing against a Chinese person, it's evil Communist regime that is responsible for the deaths of millions, 40 million by Chairman Mao alone. But as we enter a dangerous economic pact with the Chinese, think about the quality products being shipped our way.

  • farmed catfish, shrimp, eel, basa and dace, after repeated tests found traces of the antibiotics nitrofuran and fluoroquinolone, as well as the antifungals malachite green and gentian violet
  • U.S. traffic safety authorities ordered Foreign Tire Sales Inc. of Union, N.J., to recall as many as 450,000 radial tires it imported from Hangzhou Zhongce Rubber Co. because of an unsafe design that can result in blowouts. The tires were sold under at least four brand names: Westlake, Compass, Telluride and YKS.
  • 1.5 million high-end Thomas the Tank Engine toys
  • the FDA stopped imports of toothpaste made in China because it may contain diethylene glycol, a poisonous chemical used in antifreeze that can act as a sweetening and thickening agent.
  • A recall of more than 100 brands of pet foods was ordered in March after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration found that wheat gluten, imported from China and used as a protein source in the products, was contaminated with melamine, an industrial substance with no approved use in food. The contamination led to the deaths of possibly thousands of cats and dogs from kidney failure.
  • refused 298 food shipments from China, including dried apples preserved with a cancer-causing chemical, frozen catfish laden with banned antibiotics, scallops and sardines coated with bacteria and mushrooms laced with illegal pesticides.

China has launched a nationwide crackdown on shoddy and dangerous products; it announced last week it had closed 180 food factories after finding industrial chemicals - including formaldehyde, illegal dyes and industrial wax - being used in products from candy to seafood.

We need a little "buy American" to balance the trade deficit.

For the sake of the "bottom line" corporate America, and we the consumers, are helping China's government, oppress its people.

Is that what we want to do?

I cannot agree more in buying American. It doesn't help our government has some bizarre self-destructive faith in the Chinese will start having fair trade practices, but that's another story.
In regards human rights and their history abuse, everyone knows they are oppressive. Google was an enabler even though they were difficult with the US government in our hunting of terrorists. Why? The US really does follow laws no matter how much some may disagree. The Chinese don't give a flying fart about international law and Google knows the Chinese are a goldmine. So they let their ethics falter for the bottom dollar.

    Kissinger Doing the Weather
Back in the early 90s, I awoke with a wicked hang over one morning. As I sat on the floor watching the morning news, I swore I saw Harold Kissinger doing the weather. No one believed me. Professors discounted me. I have been vindicated.
