INDIANAPOLIS -- Irish eyes are not smiling at Cathedral High School Friday after the school was told it must stop using its leprechaun logo.
An e-mail was sent to the schools parents that said officials at Notre Dame are taking a more strict line on enforcing their copyright of the logo.
Cathedral has the same school colors as the university and the school nickname is "Irish."
School officials said they are not happy about the decision, but indicated that they don't want to risk going to court over it.
Officials at Notre Dame said Friday that the move was part of an agreement reached as much as three years ago that the high school would begin phasing out the usage of the leprechaun logo on any associated items.
The school's attorneys said Cathedral was free to use any other leprechaun logo, as long as it didn't look like theirs.
I did my four years of Catholic schooling at Cathedral. Great family, lots of skeletons in the closets, best choice of my life.
But this is a ridiculous and immature stunt by a world recognized university bullying an Indianapolis high school, which happened to adore ND, for "copyright protection." Selfish, very selfish
And today, Notre Dame was knocked out the Big Dance by Winthrop.
I love karma.
